What is a Employment Agreement?
An employment agreement is a legally binding contract between an employer and an employee that defines the terms of the working relationship. It covers compensation, job duties, benefits, work schedule, confidentiality, and the conditions under which either party can terminate the arrangement.
Unlike informal offer letters, a formal employment agreement provides enforceable protections for both sides. Employers gain clarity on restrictive covenants, IP assignment, and grounds for termination. Employees gain certainty on pay, benefits, severance, and what happens if the role changes or ends.
Employment law is one of the most jurisdiction-sensitive areas of contract law. Probation periods, notice requirements, non-compete enforceability, and statutory benefits vary dramatically between states and countries. Contract.DIY generates agreements that reflect the specific legal requirements of your jurisdiction — so you stay compliant from day one.
