Voice & tone

How we sound

Five principles, taken from our internal brand voice guide. Use them as a check when quoting or paraphrasing us.

  1. Plain over legal

"Send" beats "execute." "Sign" beats "enter into." "Late fee" beats "liquidated damages." Use legalese only inside the contract document; never in marketing.

  2. Specific over abstract

"Five minutes" beats "fast." "$1 per contract" beats "affordable." "50 states" beats "broad coverage." Numbers everywhere.

  3. Confident over hedged

Cut "almost," "essentially," "professional-grade," "industry-leading." If a claim is true, say it. If you can't say it, kill it.

  4. Anti-lawyer when defending the wedge; respectful of law when explaining the product

"You don't need a $400 lawyer for a $1 NDA" is on-brand. "Some lawyers are bad" is not. The enemy is the price and the wait, not the profession.

  5. Wry, not snarky

A dry parenthetical ("Cancel anytime — when you have one") earns trust. A snark ("LegalZoom is robbing you") loses it.
